A new development has emerged in the case of an Interstate 95 (I-95) bus crash in Stafford County, Virginia, that left five people dead and 44 injured. The court recently granted a defense request for a postponement, rescheduling the trial of 48-year-old Staten Island resident Jing Sheng Dong from October of this year to March 2027. Meanwhile, prosecutors emphasized that the victims’ families are prepared for the trial and wish for the case to proceed quickly, rather than facing further months of delay.
Dong faces five counts of involuntary manslaughter and one count of reckless driving. He was granted bail in early August of this year. As previously reported by this newspaper, Dong’s defense attorney, Thomas Walsh, had petitioned the court for a delay, stating that an accident reconstruction expert hired by the defense required more time to review the evidence; prosecutors had opposed the request at the time.
